Someone ones said: “If you cannot run –walk. If you cannot walk – crawl. By all mean, just keep moving”. This is how I will relate my case in the last couple of weeks. During my absence, fans and close friends, including my Coach and friend – Mr. Innocent Usar (CEO Innocent Minds), reached out for that push in the back to return to form. May I seize this opportunity to say a big Thank You!
For many years I used to work a very tight schedule. Such tight schedule that forces you to put your happiness and abilities on hold. Part of my New Year resolutions was to try new things – especially that things I have always wanted to do and to give it everything I have UNTIL It lock in as a new habit. One of such decisions was to own my own blog as an avenue to share my personal content and passion. I must confess, it is fun to be right.
In describing my feelings since I started, I can remember telling a friend that it feels like I am adding more years to my lifespan just doing what I love. It breeds inner peace and contentment.
But you see, even when we have a good knowledge of the benefits associated with our new habits. Our minds usually find a way to play tricks on us by allowing the seemingly old habits creep up on us – soon replacing the new habits and returning us to where we ones were.
Soon after I started out on my blog, I was getting responses that were encouraging and I was enjoying it until life happens. The daily demands of business, family, socials, money seeking, etc, posed a huge challenge forcing me back into the usual unconscious workaholic ways. It didn’t take long before I started procrastinating on something I love to do – Speaking and Writing. This was happening unconsciously.
Even as an NLP Practitioner, a Coach, and a Mentor. I experienced in my prime, first hand, how the power of the subconscious mind plays out in our daily lives. I had to pause and think – if this could happen to me, then what then is the case with those who are not even aware of how the mind works?
It was an interesting discovery and even more so a part to self-discovery. It reminded me ones more that I am still human after all. Lol.
You and I have this battle going on in the minds daily. Amidst my busy work, I still had to break the ice to share my experience with you today just so you can lean back for a self-check. We must regularly review and challenge our schedules. Weeding out those things/activities on our day-to-day endeavors that are eating up our time, so we can free up time for those things that matters to us the most – primarily.
One of the things I have to learn this period is that: if we are doing something else, create time to do the things you really love after hours. Give 30min – an hour to the things you love to do daily. Even when you try and fail many times, by all means – keep moving. It took you years to form your old habit, therefore, it is going to take a corresponding amount of effort to create new patterns.
The brain was designed to primarily keep us safe. It does not, on its own, like to do things that are uncomfortable. We owe it to ourselves to train our brains to deliver the results we seek from life, because, even when our body has limitations, our minds does not.
Like a gardener tends to his garden, so also shall we tend to the garden of our minds. Weeding out impure thoughts, patterns and belief systems that do not empower us. Habits that no more serves us MUST be pulled by their roots if we must replace old habits with new ones – because one’s habits are formed, they can only be replaced.
